Flood alleviation scheme along the River Blackwater near the village of Milltown in North Monaghan.

The scheme involved raising of an existing local primary route by up to 1.2m over a distance of 600m including accommodation works for residential properties along the route.

The main work elements were;

  • Traffic and pedestrian management with diversion route around the works
  • Site clearance of hedgerows, fencing, boundary walls and piers along the entire route
  • Supply, placement and compaction of 7000 tonnes of imported boulder clay to form embankments and verges
  • Placement and compaction of 5000 tonnes of Cl 6F2 capping and sub-base
  • Linear road drainage and outfall to River Blackwater
  • Group water scheme mains replacement HDPE water main over extent of the roadworks
  • Extension and raising of Bridge parapet and wing walls
  • Accommodation works including new driveways and entrance piers
  • Fencing and gates to all boundaries
